The purpose of a Main Street program is to assist in the improvement and revitalization of a downtown area.  This is accomplished through the encouragement and development of new retail business in the central business district, the influence of preservation and restoration of  historic properties as a resource in the promotion of tourism, and strengthening public participation.

This community driven, comprehensive method to revitalize historic downtown districts is based on the MAIN STREET FOUR POINT APPROACH. This strategy works to address the needs and opportunities with four broad areas, each represented by our committees:

• ORGANIZATION: Building consensus and cooperation among the many groups and individuals who have a role in the revitalization process.

• DESIGN:  Enhancement of the physical appearance of the downtown district by renovating historical buildings and adding new elements.

• PROMOTIONS: Organization and coordination of marketing activities to draw residents and tourists to shop downtown Dandridge.

• ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:  Devising and implementing new strategies to expand the existing economic base of downtown Dandridge.

The Dandridge Community Trust, Corp. supervises and implements the Main Street program in Dandridge though a 15 person Board of Directors.
