ANNOUNCEMENT
February 15, 2011- The National Trust for Historic
Preservation announced Dandridge, Tennessee as one of the 2011 Dozen
Distinctive Destinations. Dandridge Community Trust, managers
of the Main Street Dandridge Program, nominated the Town for the
authentic small-town experience both visitors and residents
appreciate. "Dandridge embraces its rich history through the
preservation of our many buildings" says Barbara Garrow, President
of Dandridge Community Trust, "Merchants and the Town itself takes
great pride in the vibrant downtown atmosphere which offers
shopping, dining, and seasonal activities."
Dandridge is the only town in
Tennessee to receive the award this year. It is only the 4th
location in Tennessee to become a "destination" since the awards
began in 2000. Main Street Dandridge
nominated the Town for the authentic small-town experience both
visitors and residents appreciate. This exciting announcement tells
the country what we already knew, our hometown is a great place to
live and visit!
A press conference was held
to formally announce the award on February 15th in downtown Dandridge. Nancy Tinker of the National Trust for Historic
Preservation presented the award to Vice Mayor Mike Chambers of
the Town of Dandridge. Brief remarks followed from Susan
Whitaker, commissioner of the TN Department of Tourist Development
and
