ANNOUNCEMENT

February 15, 2011- The National Trust for Historic Preservation announced Dandridge, Tennessee as one of the 2011 Dozen Distinctive Destinations.  Dandridge Community Trust, managers of the Main Street Dandridge Program, nominated the Town for the authentic small-town experience both visitors and residents appreciate. "Dandridge embraces its rich history through the preservation of our many buildings" says Barbara Garrow, President of Dandridge Community Trust, "Merchants and the Town itself takes great pride in the vibrant downtown atmosphere which offers shopping, dining, and seasonal activities."

Dandridge is the only town in Tennessee to receive the award this year.  It is only the 4th location in Tennessee to become a "destination" since the awards began in 2000. Main Street Dandridge  nominated the Town for the authentic small-town experience both visitors and residents appreciate. This exciting announcement tells the country what we already knew, our hometown is a great place to live and visit!

A press conference was held to formally announce the award on February 15th in downtown Dandridge. Nancy Tinker of the National Trust for Historic Preservation presented the award to Vice Mayor Mike Chambers of the Town of Dandridge.  Brief remarks followed from Susan Whitaker, commissioner of the TN Department of Tourist Development and Patrick McIntyre, Jr., executive director of TN Historical Commission.

SPRING CELEBRATION MAIN STREET PARTY

Main Street would like to thank Phil Williams and performers Jenna Jefferson, GRITS, Tribe of I, and Phil Williams. Thanks to all participating restaurants in our "Taste of Dandridge": Angelos at The Point, Bush Brothers, Carson Newman Catering & Bakery, Dandridge Pizza & More, Lake View Grill, Leia's Wrap Cafe, Perkins, Scrappy's General Store, Smoky's Steak & BBQ, Tinsley-Bible Drug Store, and Wagon Wheel.  Congrats to all Stay-Cation winners!  And a special thanks to everyone that crowded Main Street in Dandridge enjoying the wonderful spring evening. The National Trust for Historic Preservation announces Dandridge, Tennessee as one of the 2011 Dozen Distinctive Destinations. Thanks to everyone for participating in the Online Voting Contest for the 2011 "Fan Favorite". Though Dandridge did not place first in the contest, we were ahead of such heavily populated destinations as Colorado Springs and St. Paul.  Once again Dandridge shines for it's active community. Thanks again for voting daily!!
